At the start of the 2007 RWC in Paris, few anticipated that Argentina would go 4-0 in Pool play, beating host France and also Ireland.  The Pumas continued undefeated defeating Scotland 19-13 in the quarterfinal round before losing to eventual tournament winner, South Africa in the semis. Argentina rugby had arrived on the big stage and performed admirably.

In the Bronze medal match, Argentina hammered France for the second time 30-15 with four tries.  One try rated as the one of the best of the event, a multi offload score that went from sideline to sideline in a brilliant display of team passing and follow-up.

Since 2007, the significant event for Los Pumas has been their admission in 2012 as the fourth side in the southern hemisphere Rugby Championship. Annually, playing against Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa has strengthened the side.

Now, eight years after, in RWC 2015, Los Pumas once again have made it into the Bronze medal game for the second time where they will play South Africa this Friday, October 30 (Free television from Universal at 3:30 p.m. ET.). Of note is that in August of this year. Argentina beat the Boks for the first time ever 32-25 in Durban.

Importantly, Los Pumas have benefitted from increased fan support for rugby. The country has become more aware of the sport, due also to USA 7s tournament victories in 2004 and 2009. The sevens side has made it into the 12-team Olympics next summer in Brazil.

If form holds true, we can expect a lively third place match between South Africa and Argentina.
