The National Small College Rugby Organization (NSCRO) is proud to announce that the NSCRO/Penn Mutual Women’s 7’s Select Side will return to the Las Vegas Invitational (LVI) 7’s tournament and the Collegiate Rugby Championships (CRCs). The Las Vegas Invitational will be held on March 1 – 3, 2018 and the CRCs will be held in Philadelphia, PA on June 1 – 3, 2018.
The Select Side program is entering its third year with a core of experienced players, a solid depth chart, and a pathway that allows for all players on NSCRO teams to be considered for selection.
Players for the program are viewed at the NSCRO Women’s 15’s Championship, Women’s 7’s National Championship, and the 2018 NSCRO Women’s 7’s All Star Championships. While these events provide an opportunity to view players in person, the most important piece of the selection process is the online Player Recommendation Form. This creates a pathway for the players whose team may not be as successful at the National level, and who otherwise may not get recognized by the NSCRO coaching staff. The success of this pathway and the success of the program lies in the hands of the team coaches who have the opportunity to advocate for their players’ selection.
Recommendations are accepted throughout the year. Final selections for the squad participating in Las Vegas will be made on Wednesday, January 24th.
The program is made possible by Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company and their continued support in the growth of women’s rugby. Contact Bryn Chivers ([email protected] or via cell 773-308-4540) if you have questions about the program or would like to discuss a player in more detail.
About National Small College Rugby Organization
Since 2007, the National Small College Rugby Organization (NSCRO) has been at the forefront of fostering and developing small college rugby programs in the United States. NSCRO is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing services to small college programs that raise the profile, image, and benefits of collegiate rugby in the eyes of school administrators.
Comprised of nearly 400 men’s and women’s college rugby clubs who participate in more than 30 leagues, NSCRO provides an opportunity for these programs to showcase their abilities to a broader audience with a chance at a national title and ranking. Along with recognizing club and player success on and off the field, the increased visibility NSCRO creates has led to improved school support, greater on-campus interest in rugby, and growth in financial support and alumni involvement.
The NSCRO/Penn Mutual Women’s 7s Select Side will be competing in the Las Vegas 7s on March 1-3, 2018. We will make the final selections for this team on Wednesday, January 24th so that all players participating in the NSCRO Women’s 7s All-Star Championships will be eligible for selection to the NSCRO/Penn Mutual Women’s 7s Select Side.
