Russian Women won the European Grand Prix Series Sevens, defeating host nation France 25-6 last weekend in Malemort. It marked the second major 2016 European victory for the Lady Bears who also were victorious claiming the Rugby Europe Women’s 7s title this year.
Russia defeated Ireland 27-5 in the semis while Les Bleues won narrowly 22-19 against the Great Britain Lions.
France had won the Kazan 7s title in June, and also, finished sixth in the Olympics, losing to the USA.
At this French event, Italy won the Bowl 34-0 against Finland. The Netherlands beat the Great Britain Royals for the Plate trophy.
For next season, the European event will welcome Sweden and Poland who replace Ukraine and Finland in the Grand Prix Series.
