The USA Women advanced into the Japan tournament eight team qualifying round finishing 2-1 in Pool C behind Canada. The Eagles enjoyed an easy, second game against England, defeating the Red Roses 27-5 after being up 17-5 at half time. In the second period, the Eagles added on ten points with tries coming from new scorers Gray and Durbin.
In the final game of Pool C, the Canadians won 29-12, after leading only 14-12 at the break. The Eagles' defense broke down in the second half as Canada scored three more tries without an answer from the USA. This match marked the Maple Leafs third consecutive win against the Eagles.
The USA next take on a powerful Fiji squad. Fiji are lead by the event's top try scorer, Miriama Naiobasali, who has six. The game streams at 10:15 ET tonight at www.worldrugby.org.
